Kateryna Bilokur is an outstanding Ukrainian artist, a master of folk decorative painting, known for her unique floral compositions.
She was born on December 7, 1900, in the village Bohdanivka in Poltava Oblast (now Kyiv Oblast). Despite the lack of education, Kateryna learned to draw on her own, using materials at hand. The artist’s talent was noticed after her letter to the singer Oksana Petrusenko with a drawing, which became decisive for her recognition.
Bilokur created extremely detailed canvases, including “Tsar-colossus”, “Flowers behind the Mud” and others. Her works are distinguished by realism, a subtle sense of color and love for nature. The artist received recognition not only in Ukraine but also abroad: Pablo Picasso, after seeing her works, called Kateryna Bilokur a “genius artist”.
She died on June 9, 1961, in her native village Bohdanivka. The creativity of Kateryna Bilokur has become an invaluable part of Ukrainian culture, and her flower paintings are considered masterpieces of world art.
