Maria Prymachenko is an outstanding Ukrainian artist in the genre of “naive art”; and laureate of the National Prize of Ukraine named after T. G. Shevchenko. Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR, People’s Artist of Ukraine. Her work is a symbol of Ukrainian folk art.
She was born on January 12, 1909, in the village Bolotnia in the Kyiv region (now Ivanіvski district). Since childhood, she had a talent for drawing and was also fond of embroidery. Maria’s creative path began in the 1930s when experts noticed her talent and invited her to the Central Workshops of Folk Art in Kyiv.
Her works are distinguished by fantastic images of animals, birds, flowers, rich colors and rich imagination. Maria Prymachenko’s paintings are a combination of folk traditions, symbolism and a unique style. Her works were exhibited all over the world, in particular in Paris, Warsaw, Prague, and Montreal.
Maria Prymachenko lived her whole life in her native village, where she created masterpieces that inspire generations of artists and art lovers. Died on August 18, 1997undefined year, leaving a huge cultural heritage that has become part of world art.
