From June 30, 2022, the exhibition “Ukrainian phoenix. Vasylkiv majolica”, carried out in partnership with the National Museum of the Revolution of Dignity. For the first time, the legendary ceramic rooster from Borodyanka, which survived the bombing of residential buildings by Russian troops in March 2022, is presented at the exhibition.
The impetus for creating a joint project was a photo of a kitchen cabinet with a decorative rooster vessel, which became a symbol of the indomitability of Ukrainians. This photo went around the world, and the locker and the rooster were transferred to the funds of the National Museum of the Revolution of Dignity. The ceramic figure of the Vasylkiv majolica factory has interested many not only in its modern history, but also in its origin. Where the symbol of Ukrainian stability comes from, what is special about Vasylkiv ceramics and who created its unique face, visitors to the museum will learn after viewing the exhibition.
The exhibition tells the story of the Vasylkiv Majolica Plant (VMZ) – a successful artistic enterprise of the 20th century – and presents the works of leading artists who relentlessly experimented on improving production techniques and technology, developing the expressiveness and attractiveness of the product range. The main emphasis of the exhibition is focused on the theme of the image of the rooster in the history of the folk art of ceramics; the authorship of the main character of the exhibition – the “Borodyan rooster”; images of birds and flowers, “good animals”, created by the leading artists of the Academy of Fine Arts, Nadiya and Valery Protorieva. The exhibition also presents the works of outstanding artists and masters of Ukrainian pottery Mykhailo Denysenko, Prokop Bidasyuk and Omelyan Zhelezniak.
