The eyes of flowers

The museum has launched a large-scale project “Eyes of Flowers” dedicated to the 140th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Ukrainian artist Hanna Sobachko-Shostak (1883-1965). It will last until the end of March 2024 and includes a number of interesting educational events that reveal little-known pages of the biography and work of the Ukrainian artist.

The project began with a bright exhibition filled with deep meanings, presenting about 50 works from the museum’s unique collection of works by Hanna Sobachko-Shostak, dating from 1911 to 1964. Among the rare exhibits are two embroideries made by the artist herself.

“Sobachko-Shostak was the first to paint fantastic flowers without having botanical reality as a model. The principles by which she composed them were also fantastic. Hanna Fedosievna was the first non-professional artist to use color, a colored background. This is what the artist brought to the Ukrainian decorative heritage,” said project curator Diana Klochko.
