The National Museum of Decorative Arts of Ukraine, as part of the “Birthday in the Museum” project, invites you to the jubilee exhibition of the outstanding ceramist Nelly Isupova. The exposition of the exhibition is retrospective, demonstrating all the creative stages of the artist’s activity.
After studying at the ceramics faculty of the M. Grekov Odesa Art School, Nellie Isupova worked for twelve years at one of the best majolica factories of the former Soviet Union – the Vasylkiv majolica factory, where the folk tradition of ceramic painting was carefully maintained and developed. And this creative period of hers is marked by paintings of ceramic forms with spreading Vasylkiv watering.
The second stage is ceramics in the style of the Baltic Symposium works, which are characterized by a “dry”, restrained form and decoration, geometric style. And finally, after a long search, the artist came to “her shore”, her manner of decorating bright cheerful fantasy ceramics. Her work is characterized by a philosophical attitude to life, perception of space in bright colors, saturated with kindness and a smile.
She creates her original world of images, filled with thoughts and feelings. The colorful space of strange trees, exotic flowers and fantasy objects is inhabited by magical birds, strange animals, good-natured people live in it and strange fish swim in it. A special favorite subject of the artist is teapots: bright, diverse in shape, capriciously painted, inhabited by birds, fish and strange creatures.
Nelly Isupova is a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, a participant in international exhibitions-competitions in Italy (Faenza), symposia in Latvia (Dzintara), “Arzhila” in France (Rumazier-Loubert), the Ukrainian cities of Polonnyy and Khust. The artist’s works have always decorated the permanent exhibition of the National Museum of Decorative Arts of Ukraine, more than 60 works are kept in the stock collection and exhibited in thematic museum projects.
Modern bright, enchanting, juicy, colorful works, marked with a unique author’s handwriting, a clearly defined and recognizable style of a mature artist, are the decoration of the country’s decorative artistic work. The exhibition will last until March 31, 2024. With this project, we are starting a series of exhibitions in 2024, which will be held under the sign of the museum’s 70th anniversary.
