Friends! The exhibition “Matvii Dontsov. A riot of flowers”, which presented 20 paintings by the Ukrainian artist, master of landscapes and still lifes Matvii Dontsov (1877-1974) from the collection of the Irpinsky Museum of History and Local History, as well as two works of the People’s Artist of Ukraine Kateryna Bilokur (1900-1961).
The presented exhibition is part of the cultural and artistic program of the museum “Bilokursky listopad”, which is traditionally held in the museum and is dedicated to the memory of the outstanding artist Kateryna Bilokur.
The general director of the National Museum of Ukrainian Folk Decorative Art, Lyudmila Strokova, noted that the opening of the exhibition is a significant event, because the works of two artists – Matvyi Dontsov and Kateryna Bilokur, who were in close contact during their lives, almost “met” for the first time in the same author’s exhibition hall.
The head of the museum also thanked the staff of the Irpin Museum of History and Local Lore for preserving the museum collection during the difficult wartime, as well as the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Kyiv Regional State Administration, the Department of Culture, Nationalities and Religions of the Irpin City Council, who contributed to the organization of the exhibition.
“Matvyi Dontsov was not recognized as a great artist during his lifetime. But he was a great artist, a man who loved life. He and Kateryna Bilokur lived through the 20th century, so rich in stormy events. But they managed to carry their friendship through the years and today they brought us together,” said Anna Kutsenko, head of the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Kyiv Regional State Administration.
The opening of the exhibition was accompanied by magical performances by students of the Academy of Arts named after Pavlo Chubynskyi, specializing in folk and classical singing, folk orchestral instruments.
The exhibition will last until November 26.
