This is an anniversary retrospective exhibition of three generations of an artistic family: Oleksandr Sayenko (1899–1985) on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of his birth, his daughter Nina Sayenko, an honored artist of the arts of Ukraine, and granddaughter Lesya Maidanets-Saenko, a professor at the Kyiv Academy of Decorative and Applied Arts and designs named after Mykhailo Boychuk, which continue the work of the outstanding artist.
The exhibition presents about 100 works, including works of artistic textiles – carpets, tapestries, batik, batik, decorative fabrics, as well as panels and plates made in the technique of straw mosaics, Easter eggs. The presented works reflect not only the trends of the time, the powerful path of the formation of Ukrainian decorative art but also relevant modern ideas and bold interpretations, made in the national style with deep penetration into the coded world of ancient symbolism, sign systems, bright colors and artistic perfection. “Aleksandr Sayenko left a significant artistic heritage.
Over half a century he created the pictorial chronicle “Thought about Ukraine”. In his creative output, more than 500 works entered the treasury of Ukrainian culture, took a prominent place in world art, and are presented in collections of famous museums in Ukraine and abroad,” Nina Sayenko notes. The creativity of the artistic dynasty of the Saenkis is a convincing example of the development of Ukrainian traditions, the succession of generations, and the significant achievements of national culture.
