About event
The colorful exhibition “Colors of the Carpathians” has been opened in the museum, which presents the works of outstanding artists of Kosiv region – masters of artistic embroidery and weaving, laureates of the State Prize of Ukraine named after T. Hanna Vasylashchuk’s Shevchenko, woodcarving masters Semen Korpanyuk (1894 – 1970) and his grandson Vasyl Korpanyuk.
The exhibition presents 27 works by Hanna Vasylashchuk, created during 1965-1998. These are towels and sackcloths, made in the technique of hand-picked weaving. Along with traditional materials – wool and linen, the craftswoman used cotton (mouliné, iris), silk and viscose yarn. Hanna’s creative understanding of traditional motifs and compositional schemes of spindles differs from traditional products by a clear rhythmic basis, the dynamic arrangement of motifs in stripes, and the variety of development of their forms. Ornamental compositions are complex and diverse.
In contrast to the ancient Sheshor “spider” and commonly used “fence” sacks with a neutral – white or gray background, the craftswomanundefined she chose blue, red, cherry and green colors that are quite active in tone, which she combined with equally saturated multi-colored stripes of the ornament. Semen Korpanyuk is a prominent folk master in the technique of “dry” flat carving, relief carving, inlay, and intarsia. He learned carving from his father, Ivan Korpanyuk, and from his mother’s brothers, Vasyl and Mykola Shkriblyak. His creations include plates, racks, caskets (caskets), mustards, bowls, frames, cups, sugar bowls, hatchets, spoons, spoons, barrels; crosses, trinity candlesticks, and crucifixes.
The main direction in the work of Vasyl Korpanyuk, who also comes from the glorious Korpanyuk family, is decorative and applied, monumental art, and sometimes he turns to the traditional family craft – dry carving on plates, boxes, etc. In his works, the master uses plant-geometric ornamentation, compositional construction of motifs and elements of the Hutsul school. The exhibition will last until the end of September.
