Ukrainian embroidery of the XVIII – XX c., demonstrates the metamorphosis of styles and interlacing of different ages, representing the tastes of different people and decorative thinking of contemporary artists. The whole range is represented in the collection of embroidery in museum.

The museum’s collection of works of embroidery art contains several sections, among them – ecclesiastical embroidery of the XVIII – XX c. It submitted embroidered fragments of orthodox priestly vestments, church embroidered fabrics intended for liturgical celebrations, banners.
National cloth generously decorated with embroidered ornaments. Colors, motifs depended on local traditions of different regions, even some villages. The museum has a rich collection of embroidered shirts. The oldest one dates XVIII c. and comes from Poltava province, and is an example of the embroidery made in a monastery. Other details of folk costumes, decorated with embroidery also represented in the collection.

The real treasure of the museum is embroidered towels of different regions of Ukraine, the oldest of which is from XVIII c. Formed by fusion of pagan and Christian symbolism and adopted for Christian religious needs such towels were an integral piece of church and peasant ritual life. Images of tree-flower crosses in blossom, two-headed eagles, baroque compositions – the most common “clichés” for towels made in XVIII – XX c.
Embroidery of the middle and second half of XX c. represented in the museum collection focused on old folk embroidery models, but made with new materials.
