About event
On December 6, the museum opens the exhibition “Maria Primachenko. Unknown” and the presentation of the first virtual gallery of the outstanding artist’s works.
For the first time, the museum is exhibiting about 60 unknown original works of the People’s Artist of Ukraine Maria Prymachenko from the museum’s unique collection, created during 1936-1937 while studying at the School of Folk Masters of Folk Art and working in the Experimental Workshops at the Kyiv Museum of Ukrainian Art.
The presented “cycles” of drawings make it possible to trace the compositional and coloristic tasks that dominate certain years of the craftswoman’s training in the school workshops. It is important to note that among her teachers were leading Ukrainian artists – V. Krychevskyi, A. Petrytskyi, V. Cassian. M. Deregus and others. Depending on the educational tasks, the “cycles” of works of this period are united both by the format of the sheet and the structure of the composition, the vivid definition of the character, the technique of execution (watercolor, gouache) and color solutions.
Together with the exhibition, the museum presents the first virtual gallery of works by the world-famous artist, which displays 79 original drawings by Maria Prymachenko. These are works from two small school albums that the artist performed, probably in the second half of the 1940s. They entered the museum’s collection after the ten-year exhibition of Ukrainian folk art in 1951. Albums with pictures themselves were previously displayed at exhibitions, but admirers of the talent of the beloved artist couldn’t look inside them. Thanks to the technology of virtual reality and 3D modeling, museum visitors have a fantastic opportunity not only to see rare drawings and the first ceramic works of the outstanding artist, but also to get an immersive experience – to travel through the halls of the gallery, get closer to the works, examine their details, touch them and interact with them The virtual gallery also opens up new opportunities for conducting interesting interactive activities for adults and children – quizzes, undefined excursions, etc.
This is a joint innovative project of the museum, the NGO “eMuseum” and the “Imersum” company, carried out with the help of the digitization of exhibits, on which a team of specialists worked for half a year on equipment donated to the museum by the ALIPH Foundation with the assistance of the French Institute in Ukraine.
