Maria Prymachenko
People’s Artist of Ukraine, laureate of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine Maria Prymachenko (1909-1997) achieved international recognition among the masters of naïve painting. Creating her own unique visual language in the images of fantastic animals, birds, and flowers, she created a deeply national art that organically combined the experience of many generations of folk artists, ancient folklore myths of the Ukrainian land, and signs of the time in which she lived, translating them into the language of colours and lines.
